T/TAS Health and Early Head Start Specialist, Janie Sailors, RN, BSN, NCSN has a foundation of more than 30 years of community and pediatric nursing experience, including over 15 years of work with Head Start/Early Head Start children, staff, and families. Utilizing a diverse background incorporating experiences in both the military and civilian arenas, she is uniquely prepared to address the compelling comprehensive health issues facing the early childhood community today.

Ms. Sailors was instrumental in establishing the Florida Association of School Nurses (FASN), serving as charter president and continues as to serve on the FASN Board. She also represented the state of Florida on the board of the National Association of School Nurses, using both positions to develop support for and understanding of the early childhood population. 

Early Head Start is an area of special interest and skills for Janie, who is certified in all four modules of the Program for Infant and Toddler Caregivers (PITC). As part of the TTAS Health Team, Janie works to develop and refine the medical, mental, nutritional, and oral health skills of Health Managers, utilizing both a one-to-one, on-site approach as well as group learning at the nationally known Managing Comprehensive Health Services in Head Start/ Early Head Start Institutes, which have trained hundreds of Head Start and Early Head Start staff. In addition, Janie and TTAS Family & Community Services Specialist Jennifer Pecot recognize the interconnectedness of health and family services and collaborate with family services staff through Partners In Practice institutes to stress the case management approach to comprehensive Head Start health services.

A sampling of Janie's other varied projects includes serving as interim Health Manager assisting a program to successfully move out of deficiency status; developing materials and training details for both the EHS Orientation Building Blocks of EHS and the more recent EHS Environments; and serving as a liaison between the Florida Office of Early Learning and assigned non-profit Early Learning Coalitions and their boards who are charged to deliver quality early learning experiences to Florida's children.
