Discussion Questions:

Initial questions for discussion before reading the material

  • What methods do you use to assess problem classroom behavior? What are their advantages/disadvantages?
  • Describe a time when you had difficulty in understanding student behavior (disguise the student for confidentiality). Looking back, what could you have done to assess the situation more effectively?

After reading the material

  • What were your reactions to the initial assumptions of assessing behavior? Would you add any considerations?
  • Using the questions under Teaching Issues, consider a problem behavior you are currently experiencing, either with a student or colleague. Which of the questions provided the most useful ideas for dealing with the behavior?
