Introduction:
At one point or another, you've probably been eager to sit with your students and have a deep, exciting, and insightful discussion about the assigned reading, only to feel the sting of starting the discussion and finding that your student is too shy, confused, unprepared, or uninterested to have an effective discussion. This is painful but it can be a great motivator to do something differently the next time, so you can engage students to enhance their learning and everyone feels satisfied with the class!
Our workshop will focus on that “something different” that faculty can use to prepare students so they are able to participate effectively in discussions. These methods can apply whether you are teaching a face to face, hybrid, or online course. I will share some methods I use and look forward to hearing ideas from participants of other methods to stimulate discussions and teaching prompts/assignments so all can benefit.
